Sen Rikyu is a 16th century influential tea master who perfected the Cha-no-yu, way of tea. He served two historically important figures, Oda Nobunaga and Toyotomi Hideyoshi, eventually being forced to commit ritual suicide - Seppuku by Hideyoshi. Sen Rikyu is a given name by the Emperor.

He holds in his left hand ceramic tsubo -  a tea container with kanji mean excellent tea, and on his right palm you see tea leaves.

 

The Showa period. Excellent condition.
Dimension: 10" high, 10,1" wide.  On lacquered wooden stand.
